    Sleeper Seats to Nong Khai


    The only train on this route with sleeper seats available is Train #25 departing at 21:41 from Ayutthaya Train Station. Train #133 is the least popular train service from Ayutthaya to Nong Khai with foreign visitors because it is the slowest and the only seat types available are 3rd Class fan seats. Train #133 is the cheapest service between Ayutthaya and Nong Khai for this reason. Train #75 is a popular service with Thai and foreign passenger because 2nd class air-conditioned seats are available and breakfast and lunch served at the seats are included in the ticket price. Train #75 is also the quickest trains service between Ayutthaya and Nong Khai and the only service which completes the entire journey in daylight hours.

    About Travel to Nong Khai


    Ayutthaya Train Station is located 4.4 km walking distance from Ayutthaya Historical Park on the East side of the Pa Sak river. Ayutthaya Train Station is one of the best preserved train stations in Thailand and the ticket hall retains many period features dating back to the 1920s. The journey from Ayutthaya to Nong Khai takes 8 to 10 hours and the first part of the journey is the most interesting, with the train travelling through a mountainous area before continuing onto the flat open spaces of Thailand’s North Eastern Region. Most foreign visitors travel to Nong Khai to cross into Laos.


    Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge


    The Friendship Bridge, which is the crossing point into Laos, is 1.5 km from Nong Khai Train Station. There is a train connection from Nong Khai Train Station to Thanaleng Train Station, a short way over the border to Laos, from where transport is available onward for the short journey to the Laotian capital of Vientiane.

    Nong Khai is on the Mekong River

    Trains from Nong Khai to Laos depart at 09:30 and 16:00 with tickets available for purchase at Nong Khai train station before travel. If you travel on Train #25 you arrive at 06:45 in the morning which, even allowing for delays, gives you time for breakfast before travelling on the first train service to Laos. If you take Train #75, which is the daytime service, consider staying at a hotel near Nong Khai Train Station before travelling to Laos the next day.
