Best Train from Bangkok to Nong Khai
We advise taking the early train – Train #75 (departure at 08:45) – so that you travel in the daylight and spend a night in Nong Khai before travelling onward to Laos or exploring this part of Thailand further. An evening dinner at the town centre promenade on the banks of the Mekong river is a pleasure, particularly when Nong Khai has it weekly Saturday Night Market. If you plan to travel overnight then we suggest that you book Train #25 as this service has a variety of sleeper berths available, none of the other two trains to Nong Khai has any sleeper berths. Advance booking is always recommended if you want a sleeper berth on the train to Nong Khai.

About Travel to the Laos Border

Nong Khai railway station is also about 2 km into the town centre of Nong Khai. Most of hotels are clustered near Soi Rim Kong and Soi Prajak Sillapakom in the centre of the town. There are many tuk-tuks waiting outside the station and they charge reasonable prices for the trip into Nong Khai town or to the Laos border.
