About Travel to Nong Khai
Ayutthaya Train Station is located 4.4 km walking distance from Ayutthaya Historical Park on the East side of the Pa Sak river. Ayutthaya Train Station is one of the best preserved train stations in Thailand and the ticket hall retains many period features dating back to the 1920s. The journey from Ayutthaya to Nong Khai takes 8 to 10 hours and the first part of the journey is the most interesting, with the train travelling through a mountainous area before continuing onto the flat open spaces of Thailand’s North Eastern Region. Most foreign visitors travel to Nong Khai to cross into Laos.
Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge
The Friendship Bridge, which is the crossing point into Laos, is 1.5 km from Nong Khai Train Station. There is a train connection from Nong Khai Train Station to Thanaleng Train Station, a short way over the border to Laos, from where transport is available onward for the short journey to the Laotian capital of Vientiane.

Trains from Nong Khai to Laos depart at 09:30 and 16:00 with tickets available for purchase at Nong Khai train station before travel. If you travel on Train #25 you arrive at 06:45 in the morning which, even allowing for delays, gives you time for breakfast before travelling on the first train service to Laos. If you take Train #75, which is the daytime service, consider staying at a hotel near Nong Khai Train Station before travelling to Laos the next day.
