With swimming pool, large restaurant, hotel music venue and extensive functions rooms and conferencing facilities, the Charoen Hotel is one of the best places to stay in Udon Thani. This hotel has a lot of history, it first opened in 1968 largely for use by the personnel stationed at the American Air Force Base in Udon Thani.

Whilst the hotel has been modernised it retains something of an old world charm to it. It is an independently run hotel with 268 rooms and extensive catering facilities and it is regularly used for weddings and large business conferences. The rooms are nicely furnished with the usual 4 star facilities such as satellite TV and free WiFi.

This small hotel does not have any facilities other than a check-in desk, the rooms though are nice enough for the price. The rooms are air-conditioned, have en-suite bathrooms and free WiFi. This value for money hotel is the closest one to Udon Thani train station.

For food and entertainment consider going to the nearby Night Market or the Irish Clock Pub, which are both a short walk from this hotel. Central Plaza, the premier shopping mall in Udon Thani, is also within easy walking distance of the UD Residence.

The rooms come with a shower, a fan and a bed and nothing else, except for free WiFi. There are also beds for about the same price in mixed or female dormitories. Its basic, but it is cheap and central and ideal if you want somewhere to rest for few hours before moving on towards Nong Khai and the Laos Border the next morning.

This hotel is also close to the Bus Station from where bus services depart to locations to which they are no direct train connections, such as Chiang Mai.
