There are two different types of ferry service you can take from Chumphon to Koh Tao.
Lomprayah High Speed Ferry
The fastest and most comfortable service is operated by the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Company. This service is by high speed catamaran departing from Thung Makham Noi Ferry Pier for most of the year at 07:00, 13:00 and 15:00. The ferry journey to Koh Tao takes only 1 hour 45 minutes. Thung Makham Noi Ferry Pier is located 27.5 km by road from Chumphon Railway Station. Most travellers on this route choose to book a joint bus and boat ticket from the railway station all the way to Koh Tao as it is difficult to travel independently from Chumphon to Thung Makham Noi Ferry Pier by public transport.

The other option is to take one of the night boat services from Chumphon to Koh Tao. There are a few different night boats, all of which depart at 22:00 and arrive from 04:00 to 04:30 in Koh Tao. Night boats are converted fishing boats with bunk beds inside a cabin. We don’t recommend the night boat for families with young children or travellers looking for a bit more comfort. The cabin can be hot, noisy and uncomfortable. Few travellers get a good night’s sleep, particularly if the sea is rough. The various night piers are located on the Tha Thahap river about 10 km by road from Chumphon Railway. Most travellers using the night boat service tend to book a joint bus and ferry service Chumphon Railway Station to avoid needing to pay for a taxi to get to the night boat ferry pier.
