Ferry from Koh Phangan to Surat Thani

There are three different ferries you can use to travel from Koh Phangan to Surat Thani Railway Station.

Raja Ferry

The cheapest and slowest ferry is the Raja Ferry. These large car ferries take 3 hours to complete the sea crossing from Koh Phangan to the nearest point on the mainland, in Donsak, which is about 90 minutes by bus from Surat Thani Train Station. The Raja Ferry has comfortable seating, outside areas, a shop on board, and it is the most stable ferry in bad weather. The only downside of travelling on the Raja Ferry is that it is slow.

Seatran Ferry

The Seatran Ferry service is similar to the Raja Ferry service in that both caompanies use car ferries. The ships which Seatran Ferry use are currently in better condition than the ferries used by the Raja Ferry company and as a consequence they tend to complete the journey much more quickly. Seatran Ferry is one of the two ferry services used by the Phantip Travel Company, which has no ferries of its own.

Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Company

The premier service on this route is provided by the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Company, and it is also the most expensive. The Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Company uses fast catamaran ferries with modern cabins and lots of outdoor seating. The sea crossing takes 2 hours 40 minutes, but the point of arrival is much closer to Surat Thani Railway Station which means that the total travelling travelling from Koh Phangan to the train station time is 3 hours 10 minutes. The route the ferry takes is also more interesting than the other two ferries as it travels much closer to some of the islands at the southern end of the Angthong Marine Park.

Booking in Advance is Advisable

We recommend that you book your ticket well in advance for both the ferry to Surat Thani and the train from there to Bangkok particularly if you are travelling during the five day period after the Full Moon Party when demand for tickets is very high.
