About Travel to Prachuap Khiri Khan
Prachuap Khiri Khan is a very pleasant coastal town with a population with around 90,000. Prachuap Khiri Khan is located slightly over 90 km to the south of Hua Hin and it is much less developed as a tourist destination than Hua Hin. Prachuap Khiri Khan is a low key destination which is mainly popular with Thai tourists although the town does attract a steady stream of Western tourists and retirees, particularly from Scandinavia. One of the selling points of Prachuap Khiri Kran is that it has excellent facilities which are great value for money. In particular the town has a good selection of hotels, all cheap for what they are, and a row of excellent fish restaurants on the seafront Chai Talay Road.
Prachuap Khiri Khan has a notably pretty railway station, a pier with a much photographed blue and white lighthouse, however, the main tourist attraction in the town is Wat Thammikaram Worawihan. Wat Thammikaram Worawihan is a large temple which encompasses a hill with a temple at the top. This hill top temple is often referred to as the Monkey Temple because of the hundreds of wild macaque monkeys which live on the hill and roam freely around the temple and the stairs leading up to it. There are superb views in all four direction from the hill top temple which we advise enjoying early in the morning before the sun becomes too intense.
