About Travel to Hua Hin

Hua Hin is Thailand’s oldest beach resort destination. The train line from Bangkok to Hua Hin was completed in 1911. The first hotel in Hua Hin, the Railway Hotel, was then opened in 1921. Several royal palaces were also constructed during the course of the 1920s and by the 1930s Hua Hin had become a fashionable place for wealthier Thai people from Bangkok to go on holiday.

 Hua Hin Beach

The main attraction for visitors to Hua Hin is its 5 km long white sand beach. Only a small part of Hua Hin Beach close to the Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa ever gets busy. There are also several other good local beaches, such as Suan Son beach, a short drive away from Hua Hin itself.

Amenities in Hua Hin

Hua Hin has lots of hotels, from budget to luxury, in the city centre. Accommodation on the beach in the city centre itself is the most expensive. Further from the beach and the city centre there are some excellent value for money hotel rooms available. Hua Hin is generally not as expensive a destination as Phuket or Koh Samui.

The range of restaurants and eateries in Hua Hin is also very extensive. The city’s closeness to Bangkok makes sourcing imported food products cheaper and easier and the standard of the international cuisine in the city reflects this. In terms of food, however, the most popular restaurants are seafood restaurants, particularly the restaurants with dining areas built on wooden fishing piers which are located on the seafront Nares Damri Road.

Leisure Activities in Hua Hin

Other than the beach, Klai Kangwon Palace and Huaymongkol Temple, Hua Hin doesn’t have much in the way of natural or cultural attractions to offer visitors in the same way as Chiang Mai. What Hua Hin does have, however, are some large and fairly high standard leisure facilities. The most notable of these are the city’s two large water parks, and 12 full size golf courses.

Many of the visitors Hua Hin attracts come to the city to eat seafood, stay in nice hotels close to the sea, and make use of the water parks and golf courses.

Events in Hua Hin

Partly because of the ease of travel from Bangkok, and partly because of the many large purpose built hotels, Hua Hin hosts a number of major events throughout the year. The three best known of these annual events are:

• Hua Hin Vintage Car Rally (December)
• Hua Hin Jazz Festival (May or June, but the dates can vary)
• Thailand’s International Kite Festival (March or April)
