About Travel to Buri Ram

Buri Ram is a lesser visited destination to the East of the larger city of Nakhon Ratchasima. Buri Ram itself is relatively small with a town centre population of less than 30,000 people. Nonetheless, Buri Ram has decent facilities for tourists including the De Sita Princess Hotel, the Alvarez Hotel and the Chill D Resort Buriram. In terms of things to do and places to eat in the evening we recommend trying So Krao Walking Street night market for Thai street food, Osteria Italia and Octopus’s Garden for European food and 2BARS for drinking and live music in the evenings.

The main tourists attractions in the area are the 60 or so Khmer era temples built in the area around Buri Ram. Buri Ram is close to the North Western border of Cambodia and many Khmer people came to what is now Buri Ram Province during the height of the power of the Angkor Kingdom about 1,000 years ago. As well as temples other evidence of ancient civilisation in the area has been discovered such as pottery kilns sites.

The best of the old Khmer temples are clustered in area 60 km by road to the South of Buri Ram Town, most notably Prasat Hin Mueang Tam and Phanom Rung. Reaching these destinations by public transport is difficult and most visitors will choose to either rent their own vehicle or hire a taxi for the day from Buri Ram. There are hotels and restaurants near Prasat Hin Mueang Tam and Phanom Rung, but not many, and staying overnight in Buri Ram whilst visiting the Phanom Rung Historical Park and Prasat Hin Mueang Tam offers visitors a lot more options in terms of both accommodation as well as food and entertainment in the evenings.
