About Travel to Ubon Ratchathani
The first part of the train journey from Don Mueang Airport to Ubon Ratchathani takes passengers through some of the best scenery on the Thai railway network. Of particular note is the mountainous area the train passes through after Ayutthaya, the 13 km long Lumtakong Lake and the distant hills of the Khao Yai National Park which are visible as the trains heads into Pak Chong. The other trains all travel this section of the route at night at which time you will be able to see very little.

Ubon Ratchathani is a fairly large city located right at the eastern end of the Southern section of Thailand’s North Eastern Railway Line. From Ubon Ratchathani you can carry on the journey eastwards into Laos via a bridge over the Mekong River. Local bus services take 2 hours to travel from Ubon Ratchathani to Pakse in Southern Laos. Pakse is Laos’s second largest town and a transport hub for bus services to the popular 4,000 Island Region and for tours of the vast Bolaven Plateau. Before you depart from Ubon Ratchathani, however, we recommend that you take the time to visit the magnificent temples in the area, particularly Wat Sirindhorn Wararam, Wat Nong Pa Phong, Wat Phra That Nong Bua and Wat Pah Nanachat.
