About Train Travel to Koh Tao
By train, and connecting ferry service, you can complete the journey from Hua Hin to Koh Tao in 8 to 10 hours by travelling overnight. The alternative option is to take one of the day time train service from Hua Hin to Chumphon (for example, Train #43), spend one night in a hotel in Chumphon City, and then travel to Koh Tao the following morning.

5 out of the 9 daily train services from Hua to Chumphon arrive in time to travel on the same day to Koh Tao. The trains which arrive too late in the day to travel to Koh Tao using the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry are Trains #43, #171, #37/45 and #31, which are scheduled to arrive at Chumphon Railway Station from 13:50 to 23:55.
If you are unable to find an available seat on one the trains which arrives in time to travel on the same day to Koh Tao, or you simply prefer not to sleep on the train, then there plenty of inexpensive hotels near Chumphon Railway Station where you can stay overnight and continue your journey to Koh Tao the following morning.

Travel to Koh Tao
The most popular way to travel from Chumphon Railway Station to Koh Tao is to take the joint bus and ferry service operated by Lomprayah High Speed Ferry, which costs from 600 to 900 THB per person. This is the fastest service from Chumphon to Koh Tao and also the most convenient for train travellers because it departs from the car park in front of the ticket hall at Chumphon Railway Station.
The journey with Lomprayah High Speed Ferry has two parts:
- Bus: Passengers travel by road from Chumphon Railway Station to Thung Makham Ferry Pier.
- Distance: 27.5 km
- Journey Time: Approximately 35 minutes
- Ferry: Passengers travel by high speed catamaran ferry from Thung Makham Ferry Pier to Koh Tao.
- Distance: 67.5 km
- Journey Time: 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes
