About Travel to Chumphon

Chumphon is one of two major railway stations which are popular with tourists travelling to the famous beaches on the East Coast of Thailand. For connecting ferry services to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, as well as travel to the mainland beach of Khanom, we recommend travelling via Surat Thani Railway Station. Chumphon Railway Station, however, is the closest major railway station to Koh Tao, which is famous for both its beaches and diving, and a number of excellent deserted mainland beaches such as Hat Sai Ri and Hat Thung Wua Laen. If you book in advance you can take a direct service from Chumphon Railway Station to Koh Tao. Several different companies operate joint bus and ferry services to Koh Tao. Connecting bus services to the ferry pier depar from the car park in front of Chumphon Railway Station making the journey very easy.

Chumphon Town is relatively small, with around 40,000 permanent residents. The main industries in Chumphon Province are agriculture and fishing and Chumphon Town is a trading centre for fish and vegetables. Chumphon Town, however, was few points of interest for tourists. The train station has some interesting features, including steam engines parked on the approach road to the station, and there is a lively night food market on the Krumluang Chumphon Road. Most tourists who stay overnight in Chumphon do so on their way to or from Koh Tao, and the city has plenty of hotels and a small number of restaurants selling Western style food such as the Farang Bar on the Thatapao Road. For food close to the train station try Papa Seafood which is on the other side of the car park in front of Chumphon Railway Station.
