About Travel to Chumphon
Chumphon is small city, with around 40,000 residents, located within a mostly rural part of Southern Thailand. The main local industries are argiculture and fishing, and many local producers sell their farm products from the back of pick up trucks parked during the day time on certain roads in the city centre.
Tourism in Chumphon
There are no major tourist attractions in Chumphon. The most interesting place to visit in the city centre is in fact the railway station, which has some interesting features like very old wooden railway staff cottages.
The second point of interest in Chumphon City is the night market on the Krumluang Chumphon Road, where you can find very authentic Southern Thai style food you wouldn’t normally find in other parts of Thailand. Be warned though. Food in Southern Thailand is typically the most spicy food you find anyway in South East Asia.
Of more interest to visitors is the area to the north of Chumphon City where the best beaches of the province’s 222 km long coastline are to be found, particuarly Hat Sai Ri and Hat Thung Wua Laen. To appreciate these remote beaches you need your own private transport. Travelling further afield by public transport in Chumphon Province is difficult, but not impossible.
