Public Transport from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal

Unless your final destination in Bangkok is somewhere within 2 to 3 km of Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, we recommend that you use public transport rather than a taxi or tuk-tuk. Taxis and tuk-tuks are available from outside the main train station building, however, for any more than a short onward journey taking the MRT or a bus service represents better value for money and can be as quick as, and sometimes faster than, taking a private taxi.

Travel by MRT from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal

The MRT is Bangkok’s modern underground railway system. There are 2 MRT lines. The MRT Blue Line runs in loop connecting Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in north of the city directly to popular parts of the city in the south including the Sukhumvit and Silom Road, and the former main train station, Hua Lamphong, which is in China Town. Passengers travelling from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal on the MRT can also connect with the BTS (over head train network) at Chatuchak MRT Station and with Airport Link at Phetchaburi MRT Station.

The MRT station at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal is known as Bang Sue MRT Station. The main entrance to the station is underneath the main building at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. Travel from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal to the Khao San Road

The Khao San Road area is not currently connected to either of Bangkok’s rapid public transport systems, the MRT or BTS. You can, however, still travel cheaply and fairly quickly by using a combination of city’s older and newer public transport systems.

One option for travelling from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal to the Khao San Road is to initially take the MRT and then transfer to the Chao Phraya Express Boat service for the remaining part of the journey. The first part of the journey is to take the MRT Line westward from Bang Sue MRT Station (Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal) two stops to Bang Pho MRT Station. At Bang Pho MRT Station exit from the MRT network and walk the short distance to Bang Pho Pier, which is Pier 22 on the Chao Phraya Express Boat Network.

From Bang Pho Pier you can take any Chao Phrays Express Boat travelling south and alight at Phra Arthit Pier, which is Pier 13. Phra Arthit Pier is located on the Phra Arthit Road and only 1.1 km walking distance to the central point of the Khao San Road. Soi Rambutri, which is popular place to stay near the Khao San Road, is only 200 metres walking from Phra Arthit Pier.
