About travel to Chumphon

Chumphon is a relatively small city with around 40,000 permanent residents in the city centre.

About Chumphon Town

As well as being the administrative capital of the province, it is also an important local economic centre for trade in agricultural produce. During the day the city is very busy with farmers bringing their produce into Chumphon for sale. At night the city’s main road, the Krumluang Chumphon Road, hosts a night market with a long line of food stalls. This night market is one the best places in Thailand to sample the distinctive cuisine of Southern Thailand made according to authentic local recipes, which generally means that the food is very spicy. Another point of interest in Chumphon is its train station, and in particular the wooden railway staff houses which line the approach road to the station and the steam engines displayed in the central reservation.
