By road the distance from George Town on Penang Island to Hat Yai Bus Station is 212 km along relatively well maintained roads. The journey takes 4 hours because of the time it takes for a minivan full of passengers to depart from Malaysia and enter into Thailand via Sadao Immigration Checkpoint, which is one of the busiest of the many border crossings between Malaysia and Thailand. Hat Yai Bus Station is located 3 km by road from Hat Yai Junction Railway Station. The easiest way to travel from Hat Yai Bus Station to Hat Yai Railway Station is leave the bus station via the main entrance and to negotiate a price for either a motorbike taxi or for one of the small blue taxi vans which also wait outside the station. The price to travel from Hat Yai Bus Station to Hat Yai Railway Station should be between 40 and 60 THB (2022 prices) and the journey takes around 5 minutes.
