About Train Travel to Chumphon
Chumphon is not a popular destination in its own right with foreign visitors and most who do come to Chumphon only do so either going to, or coming from, Koh Tao.

If you do need to spend the night in Chunphon then we recommend staying at the Euro Boutique Hotel on the Krumluang Chumphon Road. The Euro Boutique hotel is 850 metres walk away from Chumphon Train Station, you simply need to walk straight down the Krumluang Chumphon Road which leads onto the approach road to the railway station and it is on your left. The Krumluang Chumphon Road is one of the best places in Thailand to eat Southern Thai cuisine and we recommend that you eat at one of the many cheap road side food stall. The curries an other dishes are hygienic, very tasty and cost about 30 THB to 50 THB per dish. Bring your own alcoholic drinks.
Connect with the Ferry to Koh Tao
Lomprayah ferries to Koh Tao leave from Tungmakham Noi Pier at 07:00 and 13:00. Tung Makham is 17 km from Chumphon Railway Station. This means that to travel to Koh Tao you need either an early arrival in Chumphon, or travel down the day before you plan to take the ferry to Koh Tao.
The best train in order to catch the ferry to Koh Tao is therefore the 18:50 departure on Train #167, because the scheduled arrival time is 04:45 and this gives you 75 minutes leeway to allow for delays before the first Lomprayah bus to the ferry pier is scheduled to depart from Chumphon Train Station. Some sections of the Southern Train Line are single track and trains are frequently late arriving in Chumphon because they had to stop several times on route to allow other trains going in the other direction to pass.
