About Travel to Surat Thani
Surat Thani Railway Station is located 16 km to the west of Surat Thani City, in an area with a small town with limited facilities. The cheapest way to travel from Surat Thani Railway into Surat Thani City is to take one of the distinctive orange bus services which depart from the car park area to the left of the ticket hall as you depart the station. This public bus service runs two to three times an hour during daylight hours, and takes up to 50 minutes to travel from the railway station into the city centre. A faster, but more expensive option, is to take a taxi from Surat Thani Railway Station to Surat Thani city centre. If you arrive after dark then a taxi will be your only option. Taxis wait at a small booth with a roof to the left hand side of the ticket hall as you depart from Surat Thani Railway Station. The fares are written on a vinyl screen on the roof of the taxi booth. The most recent price for a taxi to Surat Thani city centre is 160 THB.
For travel to the islands, or the West Coast of Thailand, there are bus services connecting with the ferry ports which depart from the car park by Platform 1 of Surat Thani Railway Station. There is no significant advantage in terms of cost travelling to the islands (or the West Coast of Thailand) via Surat Thani city centre as opposed to travelling direct from Surat Thani Railway Station, and it also takes longer.
