Travelling by train you can easily combine a trip to Ayutthaya with a visit to Sukhothai. The Northern Railway Line does not extend all the way to Sukhothai but it does stop near to Sukhothai in the larger city of Phitsanulok. From Phitsanulok very frequent local buses run all day every day to Sukhothai town from where can find local transport to the historical park and some good hotels to stay in.
